10 things you didn't know about Dad.

One of the best ways to let a person know that they matter is to make the effort to get to know them better. It's a lot harder than simply spending time with them, I daresay, because getting to know someone is a kind of taking that involves a bit of giving, too.

Saturday, 16th November marked over fifty - 55 years, to be precise - of existence for my beloved father. I'd like to share a few tidbits about him with you, offering insights into his complexities as unbiased homage to the many sides of this absolutely wonderful soul. In doing so, I want my dad to know that, yes, I see you. You matter to me & not only do I love you - I will always be your proud little girl. Happy birthday, Daddy!

1. What did you enjoy most about being a Dad? Least?
I enjoyed most in playing with my daughters. What I enjoyed least was waking up in the middle of the night to feed them.

2. Are there things you wish you had done differently as a father? None at all.

3. In what ways are you alike with me and each of my sisters? Ronjoy - intelligence; Rona - hyperactive; Joselle - focused; and Jane - temper.

4. In what ways are you different from each of your daughters?
Ronjoy's interest, Rona's likes, Joselle's character and Jane's moods.

5. Why did you marry my mother? I love her… :)

6. What is the secret to raising good kids? Constant communication

7. What do you want to make sure that your children and grandchildren will remember about you? That im a good father and grandfather.

8. How are you most different from your parents and grandparents? How are you the same?
I'm different in temper. I tend to be hot-tempered whereas they’re kind and diplomatic. We're the same in that we're both religious.

9. What three adjectives would your own grandparents have used to describe you? Intelligent. Hyperactive. Industrious.

10. What is the best thing that your parents ever cooked? Pritong talong! That’s the best for me.

Bonus question which explains a lot when it comes to my dad's love affair with the karaoke microphone at home: If you could go back to one day in your childhood, which day would that be? Why? When I was 16 years old I wished to be more focused on singing, or becoming a singer.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Wanted to veer away from the typical birthday dedications this year to testify to the depth of spirit of this man I am proud to call my father. Because, seriously, what can I say to honour enough this man who has built & held up our lives not by words but through constant action & example?

People often call me a princess. Not too far from the truth, really. Why, you may ask? Because my dad is every inch a king - from his strong heart, humble soul, firm belief in justice, desire to serve others & to lead everyone towards the greater good, to the fact that he's just a dad brimming with unconditional love.

And, for that, I praise the Lord for blessing me from the day of my conception.
